Why grow indoors in a grow tent?
Marijuana indoor grow tent is an excellent alternative to growing cannabis indoors. The indoor environment allows for total control over the surrounding temperature and humidity levels, which can be significant factors in maintaining a healthy indoor marijuana crop. Grow tents attach directly onto your existing patio or home window, closet, or any available space so that you have easy access to tend to your plants while they are still inside the grow environment. It also ensures privacy from prying eyes outside and being more cost-efficient than other methods such as building an indoor hydroponic system or buying expensive equipment like carbon filters that may not even work with certain types of lights. In fact, by using a grow tent, many growers have produced high-quality buds at up to 50% savings compared with indoor hydroponic systems.
Grow Tents Reduce Problems With Light Leakage
One of the enormous benefits for indoor cannabis growers is that grow tents reduce problems with light leakage; there are no gaps between where your plants will be growing and what you can see on the other side of the tent, and it ensures 100% privacy. Even if somebody sees your indoor marijuana garden through a window or door gap, they won’t be able to tell how many plants you’re cultivating inside.
Every indoor grower knows just how frustrating it can be when bright lights leak out into windows at night or during dawn hours before sunrise. This isn’t something that happens with grow tents since all lighting fixtures are directed downwards towards your plants and will not be visible from the outside.
Grow Tents Are Easy To Set Up
Another great thing about indoor grow tents is that they are easy to set up without hiring a contractor or electrician. All you need are some essential tools, including:
- adjustable wrench or pliers
- screwdriver
- tape measurer
- felt marker
- power drill with bits
- Scissors grow tent or material, which comes in various sizes depending on how many plants you wish to cultivate at one time.
When setting your indoor marijuana garden up for the first time, it’s important to remember two things
- Ensure there aren’t any electrical outlets directly behind where you plan to hang your lighting system so as not to cause fire hazards by accidentally contacting exposed wires.
- Indoor cannabis growers should always make sure there’s enough room between their plants to avoid burning them with the grow light.
Grow Tents Are A More Cost-Effective Option
While indoor hydroponic systems can be more cost-effective when buying equipment like nutrient tanks or pumps, they are also significantly pricier than indoor marijuana grow tents that run for $30-$150 depending on the size and quality of grow tent materials. On average, indoor growing can be more expensive than growing outdoors, but considering how much time and money you will save by not purchasing filters or air conditioning units that aren’t even 100% necessary. Since humidity levels must remain below specific percentages, investing in an excellent indoor grow tent is a significant long-term investment.
If you plan on growing cannabis indoor in the future, getting your own grow room set up with an indoor marijuana garden will save money and frustration for years to come.
Cost-conscious indoor marijuana cultivators choose this method of growing indoors and or with hydroponic systems. Grow rooms come in various sizes depending on how many plants you wish to cultivate at one time, so you have the option of choosing something small scale until your business grows or if you prefer smaller quantities in general. Indoor grow tents also reduce problems with light leakage and ensure 100% privacy by directing all light fixtures towards your plants and not outside the indoor growing area.
Grow tents fit any space and can be used inside or outside the home, depending on preference. They’re easy and quick to install, and most importantly, they help maintain healthy indoor environments that are free from pests, mildew, mold spores which cause many problems for outdoor growers. Using a grow tent also ensures 100% privacy. All light fixtures are directed towards your plants, reducing the chances of prying eyes seeing anything suspicious through door gaps or windows into your indoor marijuana garden area.
Is it legal to grow cannabis in a home or apartment building in Canada?
Refer to Health Canada Cannabis Act for answers to legal questions
Some people are wondering if it is legal to grow cannabis in a home or apartment building? Most indoor growers grow in their homes, but referring to Health Canada guidelines or speaking with a lawyer should be done before beginning an indoor grow.
The short answer is yes. Generally, it is legal (consult with Health Canada guidelines and laws before beginning grows setup), but indoor cultivation of marijuana can be done safely and legally within your home and complex, including some types of apartments with the proper equipment, etc.
- indoor grow tents are designed for this kind of indoor cultivation
- Grow equipment is sold in stores and online. A simple search can point you to the right place with ease.
- Other people might be worried about their electricity bill skyrocketing if they were growing indoors – there’s no need! Indoor marijuana grows sometimes use less energy than running a refrigerator. You could also look into solar panels that would help offset some costs while producing clean, renewable energy.
The main thing to remember when thinking about indoor cannabis growth is safety over everything else. No one wants an accident happening where someone was hurt because something wasn’t up to code or safe enough – it would.
Is it legal to grow cannabis indoor on balconies?
Refer to Health Canada Cannabis Act for answers to legal questions
Yes, you may have an indoor garden on your balcony so long as you do not violate any bylaws related to noise pollution, odors, etc. If there are laws against having plants outdoors, indoor growing would also have to comply with local laws and regulations. It would be best if you referred to Health Canada guidelines and cannabis growing rules.
Can I use CO² for my Indoor Cannabis Grow Room?
Carbon Dioxide (CO²) enrichment systems pump out high concentrations of CO² for indoor gardeners.
Can I use a carbon filter in my indoor grow room? Yes, you can use both! A carbon scrubber is excellent at trapping odors, and it is very effective at neutralizing them so that they become non-detectable by your nose over time. So if you can run two systems (one per light), you can achieve excellent results with odor control using only one piece of equipment instead of two separate ones
What should I look for when buying a grow tent for my plants?

Our #1 Choice
Top Pick for 4×4 Tent
High Quality Small Tent
How to Choose a Grow Tent
There’s a lot to think about when shopping around for complete grow tents. Grow tents for weed range in quality, price, venting design, and size. Before anything else, the first step in the buying process is to settle on a size.
This should be relatively easy since the main factor is plant count. With an ACMPR license, you have an official plant count on your registration form that you need to stick to, so use that number to determine the ideal grow tent size.
Things to Consider When Choosing a Grow Tent
If you’re the type of person who impulsively buys things without giving a second thought, that behavior needs to stop. Here are a few things you should consider before deciding on a grow tent:
Size
Although it’s the main factor, the number of plants isn’t the only thing to consider when landing on a tent size. You also have to think about the weed strains and the growing method you plan on using.
On top of that, think about how much space you actually have available in your home. There’s no point in buying a massive tent if you don’t have the square footage for it. Measure out the exact dimensions of where you plan to put the tent, and don’t forget to factor in the tent height.
Durability
One of the biggest annoyances with ordering products online is that you can’t touch and feel the material before buying. It’s difficult to gauge just how durable a grow tent is, but that’s why we’re here to help. Our recommendations will get you through years of indoor growing.
Overall Design
The overall design doesn’t just refer to size, but also shape, ventilation layout (duct ports), roof supports (for hanging lights), and window display. You need to choose a space that is not just comfortable for your plants, but also for you to work in.
Cost
Whatever you do, don’t go with the cheapest option merely because it will save you a few bucks. Spending an additional $50 on a grow tent kit can be the difference between using your tent for one year and using it for one decade.
Top Overall Hydroponic Grow Tent
We’ve put a lot of thought into deciding on the top overall hydroponic grow tent. There are plenty of fully equipped grow tents on the market, but one stands above the rest when it comes to performance, durability, and value for the cost.
VIVOSUN 60″x60″x80″ Grow Tent
Our #1 Choice
Out of all the hydro grow tents available, our favourite is the Vivosun Mylar hydroponic tent. This model comes in several sizes, but the most popular is the 5’ x 5’. The 25 square foot floor space accommodates a 16 square foot flood tray, which makes there’s plenty of breathing room along the side.
Vivosun is a trusted brand, but that’s not why we’ve chosen this as the #1 grow tent. We love the extra-thick exterior canvas, the extra-shiny interior reflectivity, and the extra-durable steel-frame poles. On top of all this, installation is fast and easy with any Vivosun.
Cheap Grow Tents for Small Gardens
Earlier we advised against buying the cheapest option, but that doesn’t mean you have to break the bank on an indoor grow tent. Here are two of our favourite cheap grow tents for small gardens.
GA Grow Tent
The GA Grow tent is very similar in design to a Vivosun tent, but this one is strictly for small gardens. The tent has a floor space of 24” x 24” and a height of 48”, so it won’t be able to fit much. This makes it the ideal choice for growing a few plants, or it could easily serve as your Mother room.
If you’re OK with short grow tents and small dimensions, you’ll have no problems with the GA. It’s made from high-quality wear-resistant material, it’s one of the most reflective grow tents available (98%), and it comes with a smooth-zipping door for easy access to plants.
SAVICOS New Grow Tent
The Savicos grow tent is another great option for small gardens. It has a slightly larger floor space than the GA tent – 32” x 32” – and it’s over a foot taller – 63”. If you’re a large grower with a small garden, this is the more comfortable choice.
In terms of durability, we prefer the GA grow tent (and the fact that it comes with a 2-year warranty instead of 1). But this is still a top pick for budget growers and beginners. You can also purchase a smaller version of the Savicos – 24” x 24” x 55” – for even cheaper.
Indoor Grow Tents for Pros Use for Large Grows
Enough about small grow ops, let’s start talking about tents for large grows. If you’re a pro when it comes to indoor growing, you need a tent that can handle higher plant counts, like the Opulent Systems or BloomGrow tent.
OPULENT SYSTEMS 96″x48″x80″ Grow Tent
This massive tent has a floor space of 48″ x 96″ and a height of 80″. There are also options for smaller floorplans, but this is one of the top picks for pros with large grow ops. The completely waterproof interior is 98% reflective and the black lining makes it 100% lightproof.
Opulent Systems uses superior materials to build strong tent structures, and it shows. The 600D double-stitched canvas ensures complete light-blocking, and the metal poles can handle heavy light kits. This tent is a bit costly, but the price is fair compared to the massive size.

BloomGrow 120”x60”x78” Grow Tent
If you need something even bigger than the Opulent Systems tent, you’ll want to consider the BloomGrow. It has a width of 120”, a depth of 60”, and a height of 78”. It has a slightly lower reflectivity of 96%, but your plants will still get plenty of light.
Even with its large dimensions, installation is completely tool-free and easy. There are nine additional options for BloomGrow tent sizes, but this is the largest. It’s pricey but worth it if you need better control of your indoor climate.

4×4 Grow Tents for the Canadian Grower
Grow tents that measure 4’ x 4’ (or 48” x 48”) are the most common tents in the world. A tent this size is a great choice for both new and advanced growers who want to harvest 6+ medium-sized cannabis plants. It’s no surprise that our top 4×4 pick is a Vivosun…
VIVOSUN Horticulture 48″x48″x80″ Grow Tent
Top Pick for 4×4 Tent
Like all Vivosuns, this one keeps all the light in during the day, and all light out when the plants are sleeping. It is constructed from extra-thick 600D canvas that is tear-proof and metal poles that can hold heavier light systems.
Placement of exhaust fans for grow tents can be tricky, but not with this grow tent. It comes with intake/exhaust duct ports in all the right places. Vivosun paid extra attention to detail with their top-selling 4×4; you’ll find only heavy-duty zippers, a perfectly-placed viewing window, and an easy 10-minute setup.
2-in-1 Grow Tent for Mothers & Clones
Not many grow tents are designed to house both mothers and clones. Mothers require a slightly different environment than clones, so the two are typically separated in different rooms. But what if you could keep both mothers and clones in the same grow tent?
GROWNEER 60″x48″x80″ Grow Tent
That’s exactly the case with the Growneer Grow Tent. The 60″ x 48″ floor space is divided into two – a larger space for mothers and a smaller space for clones. They are divided by a velcro baffle, so it’s as if each has its own separate room.
The thing we love most about the Growneer’s unique design is the two-tier shelving system of the “clone” room. This is the perfect place for both seedlings and small clones, and the two tiers allow you to double up on floor space.
Small High-Quality Grow Tent
Small grow tents are the perfect solution for ACMPR growers who have a small grams-per-day license to grow medical cannabis. We’ve already covered a few small grow rooms, but there’s one that takes the cake when it comes to high-quality construction.
Secret Jardin Dark Room Propagator
High Quality Small Tent
Secret Jardin grow tents offer a completely light-proof space for plants to grow to their fullest potential. The Secret Jardin Dark Room Propagator not only blocks out all light, but it’s the perfect space for germination and brand new seedlings.
We don’t recommend this for the main flowering room since it’s pretty small, but the Dark Room is a great addition for plants in the early phases of the grow. This grow tent is fairly priced, durable, and easy to set up, so there’s not much more we could ask for.
What different types of grow tents are there?
There’s basically just one type of grow tent to choose from – indoor – but there are many unique features that an indoor grow tent can have. Whether you’re shopping around for the smallest grow tents or hydroponic grow tents, look for these key features:
- Quick-viewing windows
- Cinchable upper and lower ducts for intake/exhaust vents
- Removable waterproof floor trays
- Large door openings for easy plants access
Who makes the grow tents that you can buy in Canada?
All of the grow tent brands we’ve mentioned here are worthy of purchasing, but our favourite of them is Vivosun. As any seasoned grower knows, Vivosun specializes in all types of growing equipment, but grow tents are their #1-selling products.
Gorilla grow tents are another top choice among Canadian growers, but they’re much pricier than similar Vivosuns. If you’re wondering where to buy grow tents like the ones mentioned here, online ordering through Amazon is the ultimate choice for convenience.
What materials are grow tents made of?
The exterior of grow tents for weed is made from heavy-duty canvas fabric (either polyester or nylon). As long as you avoid Chinese-made junk, this canvas is extremely durable and designed to withstand wear and tear.
The interior of a grow tent is constructed from a reflective material called biaxially-oriented polyethylene terephthalate (BoPET). This material boosts light efficiency, allowing your plants to get the maximum amount of light possible.
How do you choose the right size grow tent?
Deciding on grow tent size can be tricky, but there are three main factors to consider. The first is your number of plants. Each tent can hold a maximum amount of plants, so think about your plant counts as well as plant size (small, medium, or large).
You might want to check out our calculator in order to work out how many plants you’re allowed to grow.
Consider your available floor and ceiling space before you start shopping around for massive 10×10 grow tents. Creating a floorplan/layout is always a good way to officially decide on grow tent size.
Conclusion
There’s no denying that Vivosun makes the great grow tents for weed, but this is just one reason why we’ve chosen the company’s Mylar Hydroponic as the top overall indoor grow tent.
This tent offers easy access to plants with its large door opening, the quick-viewing window is placed perfectly, and all the parts and pieces are durable. You can’t go wrong with this tent, but if you’re trying to stick to a budget, we also love the GA Grow Tent.
Don’t forget to check out our articles on Rosin Presses and Reverse Osmosis systems to make sure you get the most out of your grow.
Kyle C says
Vivosun makes the best grow tent lmao. The tent is made with lesser walls so its not light proof like the best made tents by gorilla. If you want a tent that will last years get a gorilla if your good with a tent that is only good for 18 months and is not light proof get a vivosun.
